The CDC used to recommend giving immune globulin after exposure to prevent infection. Now they recommend giving hepatitis A vaccine (Havrix, Vaqta) instead for many patients.

The vaccine is slightly LESS effective...about 95% as effective as immune globulin when given within 14 days.
