Gargling with water will help prevent colds and flu.

Some people believe that gargling with antiseptic mouthwashes will kill bacteria in the mouth and throat that can lead to upper respiratory tract infections. Now researchers say that simply gargling with water may do the trick.

People who gargle with water three times a day seem one-third less likely to catch a cold than those who don't gargle or those who gargle with iodine.

It's thought that water might wash germs from the throat or mouth before they have time to spread.
