Antibacterial cleansers containing triclosan can cause infertility and other health risks.

Increasing reports of life-threatening infections with drug resistant “super bugs” like resistant Staph and C. diff are enough to send some consumers on an antimicrobial cleansing rampage.

Antibacterial agents are being added to soaps, hand lotions, and kitchen cleansers. The most popular is triclosan...it’s also used to coat toys, cutting boards, and even plastic wraps.

But some experts worry that overzealous use of these germicides is doing more harm than good.
