More patients will be eligible to get tPA (alteplase, etc) for acute ischemic stroke.

Most stroke patients don't get tissue plasminogen activator (tPA)...because they don't get to the ER soon enough.

The usual procedure is to give tPA within 3 hours of the onset of an acute ischemic stroke. Now the American Heart Assoc recommends extending this window to 4.5 hours.
