Patients often ask how to treat minor burns caused by a sunburn, hot stove, curling iron, etc.

Suggest cool running water on the burn for 20 minutes. Caution that ice constricts blood vessels and can worsen the injury.

Suggest mild soap and water to remove debris. Don't recommend cleaning agents such as povidone/iodine (Betadine).
