Endari (en-DAH-ree, L-glutamine) is the first sickle cell treatment to be approved in almost 20 years.

Endari is for patients 5 years and older to reduce acute sickle cell complications...such as pain crises or "acute chest syndrome" with chest pain, shortness of breath, fever, etc.

It's thought to work by reducing oxidative damage to "sickled" red blood cells. This may prevent the cells from adhering to blood vessels, causing clots and reducing blood flow.
