Probiotics help treat and prevent bacterial vaginosis.
This may be true.
Healthy vaginal flora is heavily colonized by Lactobacillus. Lactobacilli produce hydrogen peroxide and lactic acid, which lower vaginal pH and may help prevent the overgrowth of other bacteria. Women with bacterial vaginosis tend to have LESS Lactobacillus and MORE gram-negative and other bacteria.
Probiotics promoted for vaginal health contain Lactobacillus species such as L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, and L. reuteri. They’re often tried in an attempt to return vaginal flora back to “normal.”
