Tricor (fenofibrate) for patients with high triglycerides (TGs)

Abbott is now marketing Tricor (fenofibrate) for patients withhigh triglycerides (TGs). This drug is widely used in Europe.

Tricor is in the same class as Lopid (gemfibrozil).

It'll be used as an alternative to Lopid or niacin...to lowertriglycerides and increase HDL. Tricor also helps lower totalcholesterol, but not as well as the statins.
