Asthma patients will soon be able to use a new form of albuterol solution called Xopenex (Zo-pen-ex).

Xopenex is levalbuterol...the R-isomer of albuterol. Albuterol is a mixture of both "R" and "S" isomers.

This is the latest example of the trend towards separating isomers...to see if one is more effective or less toxic.
