Oral cefixime is no longer first-line for gonorrhea
October 2012
Oral cefixime is no longer first-line for gonorrhea...due to increasing resistance.
This means no more preferred regimens with just ORAL drugs.
Recommend ceftriaxone 250 mg IM PLUS azithromycin 1 g for most patients with gonorrhea. Using two drugs will hopefully slow resistance.
