Don't Recommend Hetlioz for Most Insomnia Patients
Patients are asking about Hetlioz (HET-lee-owz, tasimelteon) for "non-24"...due to all the TV, internet, and magazine ads.
It's a melatonin-receptor agonist similar to Rozerem (ramelteon). But Hetlioz is approved for non-24 sleep-wake disorder.
Non-24 is a circadian disorder where patients can't synchronize their internal clock to the 24-hour light-dark cycle. It occurs in over half of blind people...but is very rare in sighted people.
