Vicodin (hydrocodone/acetaminophen) is changing from schedule III to schedule II
This all started in early 2004 when the White House Office of Drug Control Policy issued a new report outlining a plan to curb prescription drug abuse.
Vicodin is now the second most commonly abused drug among 12th graders...second only to marijuana. Even though illicit drug abuse seems to be going down across the U.S., abuse of prescription drugs seems to be going up.
The DEA and other government agencies are looking for ways to crack down. One approach that is being considered is changing Vicodin and other hydrocodone compound products such as Lortab from schedule III to schedule II.
