New evidence will provide more clarity about which blood pressure meds to use in diabetes patients with hypertension.

But JNC 8 hypertension guidelines say it's also okay to use a calcium channel blocker (CCB) or thiazide first in diabetes patients...since there's not good evidence an ACEI or ARB leads to better outcomes.
