Don't Get Hung Up on Which BP Med to Recommend First in Most Diabetes Patients
New evidence will provide more clarity about which blood pressure meds to use in diabetes patients with hypertension.
We're used to recommending an ACEI or ARB for these patients. And the Am Diabetes Assn says all BP regimens should include an ACEI or ARB.
But JNC 8 hypertension guidelines say it's also okay to use a calcium channel blocker (CCB) or thiazide first in diabetes patients...since there's not good evidence an ACEI or ARB leads to better outcomes.
