Don't Be Surprised to See Inhaled Steroids With Sigs to "Swallow"
You may see Rxs with directions to SWALLOW inhaled corticosteroids (Flovent HFA, etc).
This isn't necessarily a typo. Patients may swallow inhaled steroids for eosinophilic esophagitis.
This chronic, inflammatory "asthma of the esophagus" can cause difficulty swallowing food, vomiting, abdominal pain, etc. It's on more people's radar now...and often occurs with asthma, allergies, etc.
